'Worst Company In The World' Award Goes To...

It’s not a household name, but according to Swiss based sustainable development group The Berne Declaration, the honors for the title of world’s worst company goes to Brazilian mining giant Vale (VALE).

Berne and their partner, environmental group Friends of the Earth, announced their annual Nobel Award of Shame to the Brazilian multinational mainly for its role in helping to build the Belo Monte dam, the largest hydroelectric power plant in the Amazon rainforest, and a host of alleged labor rights abuses in dozens of countries worldwide. The award was presented during the World Economic Forum in the Davos, Switzerland on Friday.[...]
    These guys are absolute tools.

Mine death leads Vale to suspend Sudbury operations - Canada - CBC News

Vale's general manager for Ontario says operations at all five mines in the Sudbury area will be suspended indefinitely while the death of a miner — 47-year-old Stephen Perry — is investigated.
At least they're not waiting for the ministry to give them a stop-work order like they did last June. The sad part is that INCO mines (prior to them being taken over by Vale) were some of the safest in the country.
"This is a ridiculous cause and effect suggestion."
"Yeah, kind of like the sun rising and then morning happening, eh? What are they trying to pull on us?"

"If I wanted to hear from an asshole, I'd fart into a microphone."

"It's easy. Take the last f*ck, and let it go, and thus you shall have no more f*cks to give."

That's all as may be, but they marginalize the effect of their pronouncement with this part:

"Berne and their partner, environmental group Friends of the Earth..."
Ranked No. #1 in initial quality

Idiots, simply by being idiots, seem capable of achieving randomly bad things that are beyond the imaginings of sensible people.

Besides, I thought the worst company in the world was Walmart.

    Here's a question:

Whence comes the presupposition that environmental overstep is the primary qualifier for "Worst Company..."?

Are there no equivalent or (dare I say it) worse sins a company can commit?

Ah, yes - I can see that would light a fire under the environmentalists.
