I've been following the Toyobaru for awhile now and have tried to formulate a final verdict on it, but I'm still undecided. I think it looks great but it needs a little more power. That said, at $20k even the current underpowered version is a bargain buy IMO. Seems like a fun car.

Maybe, but looking at engine bay pics there's not a lot of room left. Anything is possible though.

Its hard to see but it looks like a small turbo might fit right next the battery. That is the stock location for the wrx too. Here's hoping.

Would love to see the exhaust manifold design for that setup.

It wouldnt surprise me if the battery was moved to the trunk to make more room for the turbo. The Evo x has a trunk battery.

Just from the links you posted I got to say I love what I see. It’s a great looking car, low center of gravity and RWD (thank God it’s not FWD). Just slap a turbo on it and I’m sold.

My comment was using the assumption that the battery be moved. I imagine the manifold would look pretty stupid having to snake up around that part of the car, but I know absolutely nothing about the Subaru flat four turbo setups so maybe that's common.

The Subi designers are on record as saying if the car couldn't be RWD (due to design constraints, i.e. lightweight, small, and good weight distribution) they wouldn't have made it.
