Unfortunately, I much prefer not having to carry my wallet on the beach, so it pretty much killed Key West's chance of bumping the Dominican Republic. Although I suppose you could always charge it to the room... I just don't like having to think about cost on vacation.

Oh well... Her initial searching has indicated $3000 for 5 days in DR...

Hmm. Well, there are several hotels with private beaches where you could just charge things to the room, the Marriott is one of them. I never carry my wallet with me, I wear board shorts that have a pocket, we only bring our ID's and a debit card.

Have you ever been to DR? My parents have, from what they've said, I wouldn't want to go, unless you stay at the resort at all times. It's a very poor country and they said they got mobbed by crowds of kids for money.

I edited my post to reflect it wasn't so much the lack of interest in having a form of payment but more the actual act. Having to think about the cost of what you're doing... Having to plan for variable expenses. Potentially wanting to login to check bank accounts... I just don't want to do that crap on vacation.

No, but her and her parents went several years ago. They all loved it, but they didn't mention leaving the resort. Cabo and Cozumel, even though they're in Mexico, were still very safe outside the resorts because they're so isolated from the cartel violence.

Just asked. They just stayed at the resort and went up and down the beach. Apparently you can walk miles up and down the beach to shops and stuff and never encounter the poor...

The resorts will be fine. They keep their poor pretty well cooped up in certain areas. Kinda sad really...
"This is a ridiculous cause and effect suggestion."
"Yeah, kind of like the sun rising and then morning happening, eh? What are they trying to pull on us?"

"If I wanted to hear from an asshole, I'd fart into a microphone."

"It's easy. Take the last f*ck, and let it go, and thus you shall have no more f*cks to give."

Hawaii is nice but very expensive. All inclusive resorts in Cancun or Riviera Maya are cheaper and you can drink and eat all day. For a thrill take a taxi ride but don't rent a car in Mexico. We found checking through the airport in Mexico was faster than Chicago. You can fly out of Midway to save some money.
Vegas for a real cheap vacation.

Well, whatever you decide to do, with the aspect of an "arranged" marriage in mind, you will want a variety of things you can do...or not, depending.

There are lots of ways to get to know each other, and just being together can often be as much as you'll need.

Best of luck, in any case.

Yes^! Since you barely know her, maybe you can take a week... or even a month together before going into vacation, since it will all be new to you, to be with together, to sleep together, to be in the same house... just an idea.
