The temp difference between the logger and your gauge is a known issue. The gauge is going to be the accurate one. For some reason there is anywhere between a 10-25 degree difference between most logger software and an actual gauge. We believe is has to do with how the ECU calculates the coolant temp signal or how the logger software is reading it. My logger reads a constant 205 deg but my gauge reads 180-185 which is a normal running temp for summer in NC. I have verified the temp discrepancy using MMCD, HHH, and Tunerstein. All three read the signals directly from the ECU so pretty sure any logger software reading it from the ECU would also see the discrepancy. I have only done my tests on 1st gen cars. I can't say if there is the same issue with the second gen cars or not.

If I remember right one fan kicks on at 185-190 deg and the other kicks on at 200-205 range. 1st gen fans are controlled by actual temp switches in the lower part of the radiator. 2nd gen fans are controlled by the ECU.

The only reason I can imagine for a difference between gens is a ducting issue, ie 1G bumper provides better ducting than the 2G. I can't imagine it being that drastic though.
