knock sensor

as we were pulling the heads off, i broke the knock sensor ecu harness connector. the one on the actual engine harness, not the knock sensor itself. so i spliced in another connector. i did the same for the knock sensor itself so that the 2 connection mated. do you guys think this will work or no? i can always buy a new knock sensor but it wont work with the connection because it broke?

I'm far from an expert on the subject, but that would concern me since the knock sensor voltage at the ECU is basically what determines reported knock counts... A higher resistance connector could reduce knock counts. For peace of mind, I would measure the resistance across the OEM connector and compare it to the resistance across your new connector. If the new connector has less resistance than OEM or it's within a few percent of OEM, I think you would be fine. Curious to see what others think and what you find.

I honestly think it wouldn't be a problem. Might even work better because I'd say over time the harness connection would get a bit corroded and possibly not preform as well. Adam brings up some good points though. As long as it gets a better connection than before I'd say it's fine.

i thank both of you guys for the responses. i wont be abl to measure knock anyway no since i will be on e85. but other than that, should i be ok?

^^^this^^^ as long as it has a good strong connection then it won't make an ounce of difference. Just make sure they are properly crimped etc and you will be fine.
