Idiots, simply by being idiots, seem capable of achieving randomly bad things that are beyond the imaginings of sensible people.
If you're going to go with stock, having the windshield out won't make a lick of difference, as they screw in from the bottom, dash removal is required. If you go with the 3SX ones, those you can do from the top.
If you plan on keeping the car for a very long time, I'd go with an aftermarket version unless your car is a weekend warrior and garage-kept.
You can do the install with the windshield out without having to remove the dash for the aftermarket versions.
