I have also had this happen. It will not pull DTCs unless you start datalogging for a moment.

He might be talking about the MAP sensor but I could have sworn the 96s had that.

Nope - My understanding is that there is a difference is in Purge control, 99 has two solenoids, 96 has one. There is also a pressure sensor in the fuel tank.

    Gotcha.

You are sort of correct there are 2 solenoids but they each have a different function. One is a PWM solenoid much like the BCS. This is the purge solenoid. It empties the vapors out of the charcole canister.

The other is the vent solenoid. It's a on/off type solenoid. It draws air into the gas tank vent lines to relieve vacuum in the system.

Your CEL is probably for the missing solenoid. To disable that, switch off bit 13,14 and 15 of periphery 2.

I will give this a shot. Getting ready for an OBDII inspection next month......

After much help from Jesters Deadd I've finally resolved my issue of the fuel trims. The injector latencies were way way off. I got them from injector rehab's site, but they were nearly 1.9 times lower then what they should have been.

So car's actually running now. Much thanks to Jesters Deadd.

I made a similar discovery with regards to injector latency. My car would sometimes have an unexpected lean hot-start and I had this issue for about 10 years and didn't really care until now. My original O2 sensors have stopped functioning due to old age and I have the ECU flashed as open loop (no closed loop feedback from O2 sensors), and with emission testing coming up I decided I should fix this lean hot start. I suspected the alternator voltage was running low voltage during a hot start, and I was correct: 13.5v on cold and 11.6 volts on a hot-start. I calculated the injector difference from RC550 and stock 360cc injectors, but I had to add an unusually higher amount of latency for the lower voltage range to fix this problem.

    Rehab's injector latency
    10 v 11 v 12 v 13 v 14 v 15 v
    0.92 0.81 0.68 0.59 0.51 0.40 RC Engineering 550cc low ohm
    1.07 0.94 0.81 0.73 0.64 0.54 Stock 360
    0.15 0.13 0.13 0.14 0.13 0.14 difference

Injector latency recommended by a DSM web site was to add 180ms extra for RC550.
Voltage, stock latency, 550cc latency, difference, observation
    04.6875, 3.825, 3.825, 0.000
    7.03125, 1.770, 1.950, 0.180
    9.37500, 0.975, 1.155, 0.180
    11.7188, 0.705, 0.885, 0.180, lean 17 AFR
    14.0625, 0.450, 0.630, 0.180, good
    16.4062, 0.300, 0.480, 0.180
    18.6768, 0.300, 0.480, 0.180

Adding an extra 0.150ms to 0.885ms (1.035ms) fixed the lean AFR hot start problem, but I find this unusual because it's no where near the calculated.

    Other observation notes.
    (1) Battery voltage reported by the ECU is about 0.5 volts lower than what's available at the battery. So when the car is parked, the battery voltage sitting at healthy 12.6 volts, it gets reported as 12.1 volts by the ECU.
    (2) I think my alternator is defective because of the low voltage.

I have not seen the ecu reporting lower voltage when the car is running. I see 13.8-14.0 volts at the logger with a new reman denso alternator.

When the car is off you may be correct, I have not watched it that close. It does seem kinda low when flashing.

    Hi Guys,

I got my montero ecu modified to a SL by Adam, but I'm still having the same issues ei my catalytic converter light flashes when I touch the gas pedal even slightly and I have a code 11 (current) - heated oxygen sensor. Again I have a 95 JDM GTO with one o2 sensor reading from the "rear", GTOs also don't have the EGR valve, and only GTOs have the catalytic converter light. These are my current periphs, I remember reading that these cars don't have oxygen heaters - can anyone tell me if theres anything wrong with my perephs?
