According to CETUSA, they were all notified of the work, cost of rent, etc. beforehand. Then again, the example contracts that they gave in their press release were in english only, so who knows how much smoke was blown up the student's ass when they signed it, and how much they understood. My guess is that they consider it something along the lines of what backpacking in Europe would be for us.
I can't see why Hershey couldn't cut them some slack, considering how many taxes its avoiding paying, and how many dollars its saving not having to pay the union premium of their regular workers.
