My Crazy Ex (Long story as short as I can tell it)

Several years ago I finally divorced my second wife. She was diagnosed as bi-polar approx. 2 yrs before we divorced. Also 2yrs before we divorced she attempted suicide by shooting herself in the pelvis. I had caught her messing around on me and had her moved out legally through the courts.
The night she shot herself she had come to my house to talk. We were outside and she asked to use the bathroom. I told her to go use the bathroom and I would wait for her outside. After several minutes I became nervous of what she might be doing to my house and went into the entryway. She then asked to come into the bedroom. I was already suspicious of why (she usually would want to have sex and think that would end our arguement. This was what I was expecting) When I entered the bedroom she already had my duty-weapon in her hand pointed at her head.(Imagine my surprise). BTW did I mention I was a Police officer with more than 10 yrs service?
I talked to her for approx. 45 mins. trying to get her to put the gun down. I really didn't think she was crazy enough to shoot herself at this point. The entire time she had kept me on the opposite side of my king-size bed, so I never attempted to take the weapon from her. She had made herself comfortable sitting on the other side of the bed. I decided to walk over to her side and before I could get halfway she pulled the trigger. I got 911 and she went to the hospital told the investigator that she had indeed shot herself and committed herself for a few days in the psych ward.
I stayed with her 2 more yrs before she started causing problems again. I ended up having to quit the P.D. and divorcing her. That was in 2005
Skip forward to 11-14-2011, She just divorced her 3rd husband and is substituting at my daughter's school. She never graduated H.S. or got a GED. Don't know how she's getting away with that.
My mother tells me that she is telling people at the school that she DIDN'T shoot herself, I SHOT HER. My mother wouldn't tell me who told her this but, the person that told her actually heard Crazy say it.
I called Crazy and told her I wouldn't put up with this kind of shit. I believe we have some attorneys on here. Is there anything legally that I can do to her to stop her from telling these lies?

basically you got slander on your side randy, which would be a big deal with what you do for work now. Sucks to hear this is comin back for you again man, good luck with it all, Im sure it will work out for the best

The thing is doesn't it have to cause me monetary loss? I don't know much about civil law. I only know some criminal law.

I don't think it has to, I think you have to prove it could? I mean if shes running around telling people you shot her and are some kind of violent animal she can easily cost you your job, you do work at a school right?

I wouldn't jump to legal action right away...its quite possible that the idea was planted in her head somehow. The brain recreates a memory by drawing from all over the cortex. A part could have been forgotten, at which point her brain fills in the blanks, sometimes incorrectly, so all it takes is a therapist/social worker/friend who doesn't know what they're doing to start asking if you shot her, and bingo...she thinks you did it. So she could be conveying that incorrect memory, or just trying to mess with you, who knows. Crazy is as crazy does, and the court system really has a hard time dealing with such issues.

I could possibly agree with what you said EXCEPT, she doesn't deny that she shot herself. I called her and told her what I knew she was saying. She wanted to know who I heard it from and denied she'd said it. She even tried to implicate that her most recent ex said it. When it came from her mouth.

She could just be looking for attention.
