I have had a few over the last 20 years. Had two over the last 5 years since I met my wife. "One passed away last year". It is better to get them in pairs as they are social and love to play together. Male and female are good to have together. Males are more hyper and playful. Females are more generally calm. If you have cats then you'll probably be immune to the smell as it is about the same as a cat box. I have two large dogs and they are fine around them. She has had cats with them at one time and never had any issues. We have a fairly large/strong cage for them so they have plenty of room to run and play!

It's great and has held up really good over the past 4 years now.

Ferrets went ape-shit when we first let them loose in it...LOL

Did you remove the wire bottoms from them and is it easy to do? I've read that walking on wire cages is horrible for their feet.

get a chihuahua. seriously. both of mine enjoyed playing with our cat. i've got some CRAZY videos of playfights between them. and BIG dogs (even tempered ones) tend to leave them alone, or even be friendly towards them. you need to get a YOUNG chihuahua so you can socialize it properly. they're fairly easy to potty train, imho--no worse than any other dogs. having owned a boy & girl, i'd say i prefer the girl; less likely to spray/mark

Seriously? A chihuahua? lol... a ferret isn't a dog. Plus, we already have a dog.

I absolutely can't stand small doges for the most part. Especially chihuahua's... just not my thing

You obviously have not spent any time around a ferret lol. If anything... a ferret is more like a monkey/cat.

Definetly do not get a chihuahua. They are tiny, frail, and are easily the most annoying dog in existence. I live in Texas and see a TON of them. Chihuahua's are like rat/dogs.

lol WHAT!? Sorry man, but I agree with the statement above. That's like wanting a rat but buying a goldfish.

Plus, my gf wants a Ferret, not a little taco dog.

The cage we have has plastic bottom trays on top of the wire. Don't get wire bottoms as food, litter and crap will fall out the bottom of it.
