This. I've run my car with 13T's for at least 5-6 years now without the fire ring, as my turbos and manifold are ported. So long as the studs/bolts are in good shape so you can properly tighten the turbo down, you won't hurt anything by leaving it out.

Ditto. I can't see how it would fail unless it was "pinched" on install and got crushed accidentally.

If those get really hot they can distort and fall in the turbo. They have that split stock

I do not run them. Carefully line the turbo up and you'll be fine

You've seen this? How much boost was Rob running? What were his EGT's? Heat would cause the split ring to expand and close the 'split', but wouldn't there be more pressure on the inside face of the ring than the outside?

Ah, found a post on the subject here: Tha box is here! - Page 4 - 3000GT/Stealth International Message Center

on the ones in my car I simply took the "step" out that's there to hold the fire ring, did the same on my manifolds (the front one requires you weld on the flange on the out side if you do that, because it is welding on the inside). I choose not to use the fire ring because I have seen it on cars that are pushed hard and build allot of EGT melt, deform and make it's way down into the housing and come in contact with the turbine wheel.
I thought Rob always ran this car at waste gate boost?
