Better he should have met his end at the hands of...whom?

Do we need to always follow a state ritual wherein the various crimes are enumerated and argued over at length?

Well...yeah - I guess we should - it's the civilized thing to do.

I wonder how he would've fared before the ICC?

    Probation?

how do we define "civilized"? one of the things i question about the 8th amendment is the definition of "cruel and unusual punishment". if a serial killer tortures his victims for 80 hours before killing them, why in god's name should it be "cruel and unusual punishment" to exact similar punishment upon him--and him only?

after boming pan-am 103, qadaffi should be subjected to death by explosion, imho.

Those people throw shoes at people they despise, drag dead bodies thru the streets, and shoot guns into the air to celebrate. Not exactly current day methods Mike.

For over 40 years Qaddafi acted as if there were no God. Now he has died the same way. Basically, he reaped what he sowed. Did he deserve better? Not for me to say.
What I will say is it takes a special kind of stupid, a special kind of arrogant to not take his money and run. He could have gone to any one of several countries. He chose to not do so. And he died like a dirty, filthy rat. At least they shot him; they could have forcibly fed him rat poison and made his death truly horrific.

From an outsider's perspective it might have seemed cruel. But imagine if it was your country and that man had oppressed and murdered your friends and/or family members. Certainly understandable.

Understandable, but at the same time simply a case of moving sideways. You can't expect your country to improve if it holds the same values of punishment (and in general) as those it denounces.
"This is a ridiculous cause and effect suggestion."
"Yeah, kind of like the sun rising and then morning happening, eh? What are they trying to pull on us?"

"If I wanted to hear from an asshole, I'd fart into a microphone."

"It's easy. Take the last f*ck, and let it go, and thus you shall have no more f*cks to give."

sharia law doesn't mean the end of the world for lybia. there are muslim nations that aren't off the deep end (turkey). still, lybia deserves a close eye. qadaffi might be crazy, but he was 1 crazy. in a lawless state under sharia law (like the taliban) terrorism can come from a wide variety of directions.
