We follow the earth. The earth follows the stars. The stars know their way and though the body dies. The stars will remain, like the waves of the sea and restless slate.

The one picture I've seen of the accident tells all the story I need to see. How horrible for his family.

You improve safety not outlaw it. Everyone that gets in those cars knows the risk. The safety in nascar has been nothing short of the perfect way to handle a tragedy like this in the last few years. It use to be the other way around.

still those drivers are going much faster, with zero protection on the same tracks.

Nascar has done a great job, this type of racing is insane and you simply can't protect the drivers in those unprotected, small, that fast of cars...

Unless you put big protective bodies on them and slow them down(then its called nascar)...

Mikes2nd, I have no words for how ignorant you are. If you're going to spout off about how unsafe Indy is, I suggest doing some research. Dan had been testing next years car which was significantly safer than this years car. Unfortunately he lost his life before the new car rolled out.

    RIP Dan

The problem was the amount of cars on a smaller track.

the problem was open cockpits. a HANS device makes it nearly impossible to get killed in the way that earnhardt and wheldon died...if you are inside an enclosed cabin.

i still believe that the grand am rolex series cars are the BEST design for racing; period.

    p.s.

i can't tell for certain, but it looked like 2 cars further up the track collided. in the ensuing rush to avoid that wreck, drivers behind them collided at the bottom of the track, creating a MUCH MUCH bigger wreck than this initial one. i believe it was this secondary wreck that wheldon was caught in.

Wheldon didn't die because of an issue with the HANS device, he pretty much had his face smashed into the catch fence.

Wheldon was caught in that second wreck IPD.
