of other news...there are some cheap intercoolers on ebay atm
as in for our car or just standard cores without end tanks etc?
core only
I really think either the SW20 MR2 or the 300ZX intercooler kits could work with minor modifications. I might look at purchasing one of these kits after I pay my rego next month.

Yes that are adorable lil intercoolers for sure, buuut why not go bigger I say!!
Started out today helping out Matt (Fresh) with a water pump swap but we never got enough time to rip it out despite making good progress...his replacement water pump and gaskets are not here either. after that dissappointment I rocked on back home to swap out the fuel pump but alas it seems the theives managed to steal that too (lol) ANYHO so I moved onto stuffing around with the spacing for the SMIC'ssee pix below:
first part is the brackets, there has always been contact issues with the side guard bracket, this thing is always getting in the way, looking closely it seems that I'll have to remake it (EVERYTHING bolts to it) but instead I'll make a bracket that goes AROUND the top of the intercoolerhopefully the guard bit does not need to be bent up, that would be irritating.
after pulling this one out I noticed another two brackets that were wasting good space and only used for mounting the abs which is now LONG GONE!

and with the ones that I could unbolt gone, you can see OOODles of space
you can see the hole directly above the intercooler, this with an elbow that pushes out under the fusebox will go straight into the existing intake Y pipe
showing the box I made which represents the intercooler core:
This core is available from Canada for $400 through ebay here: Intercooler Core Garrett GT 10" x 12.27" x4.5" Genuine | eBay
$200 for the core and $200 freight (gay)
it fits in quite well, I'd estimate that I have around 1" of space to make endtanks above and below the core positioning, there are plenty of bolt holes around where it'll go to allow it to mount up toothe next step (in 2 weeks) is to order it and get some gear to braze with
brazing is pretty much soldering for aluminium, saves all the stuffing around and considerable expensive of buying a welder.
using a brazer is likely to be a far better choice for this particular project as there is likely to be a great amount of rearranging/adjusting and so forth, which you can do pretty easily with brazing by just heating the whole thing up againthe brazer tools are pretty much just a torch that you adapt to plug into your BBQ gas tank
pretty cool huh! it just needs some special Aluminium rods that you feed onto the aluminium when it's hot enough and it joins the bits of aluminium together
(more info on youtube for those interested)
onto the pics!
