My company does the HTHS testing (viscosity at certain temp/pressure) yes... I wasn't paying attention to what the test actually was, I just knew what we called the resulting info, my mistake. Mobil does, we do..not sure about Shell...I have never had a customer ask me about the HTHS spec, 90% of the time they just want to know the operating temps. . As I understand it, this info is useful in motorsport for things like picking the right viscosity/oil for a things like piston rings and such. I've never heard of it being used as such, but that's what I gather. Pete can you clarify?

What method did you use to delete yours? I deleted mind the other day, but completely overlooked the fact that I can't just simply plug the holes. I was thinking that I could cut the banjo ends off of the stock cooler, flair the opening and loop them. Does this seem like something that could be a good temporary solution until I get my N/A filter housing here??
Well, to be fair, I added a new oil cooler, this was mostly fun / flamebait. But when it was leaking, I installed AN adapters into the filter housing and looped a short piece of -10AN hose.
i douth you have anything to worry about deleting the oil cooler. the first thing iam doing to the gm l99 ls engine iam putting in mikes 1970 gto is to delete the oil cooler. the reason the 2011 camaro ss uses one is the engine is highly confined . all folks who are using the l99 and ls3 are also deleting the oil cooler. if iwas worried about it i would get one of the bigger oil pans i see for the 3s .. some car forumns have a bunch of factory emgineers on board that would have a answer but i dont think anyone here would know for sure since our cars are so old. do we have any mitsu engineers on our forumn???
An excellent 10 Chapter Read: >>> Motor Oil University - Bob is the Oil Guy <<<
That pretty much summed up why an oil cooler isn't necc for a BHP DD car. 0w-50 produces 75 psi at 500 degrees and it doesn't burn. I dont think you can get oil that hot by driving to the grocery store. Likewise, I don't think you could get it over that temp on the track and risk spinning a bearing or damaging turbos or journals before you overheat or pop the headgasket. Even though the thread was a sham and quite silly, learning what I have from the racing community and BITOG, I pretty much think you could delete the oil cooler if using full syntheic oil vs. mineral based oil and see no ill effects.Originally Posted by AE Haas,
