Cool...I just ordered the infinities in post #9 above (but juggled vendors around to get free shipping)...will save the tweeters for later...but probably go all infinity...and install FP hot wire while its all opened up.

    Amazon.com: Infinity Reference 1031t 1-Inch, High-Performance 150-Watt Textile-Dome Tweeter (Pair): DiscountsJungle
Its smaller than OEM but should be able to get it to fit with some gorilla glue and duct tape

DD is similar to audioque, different companies, but the father owns AQ, and the son owns DD. They hang out at caraudio.com forums if you want to shoot them a pm.

Subscribed. I need speakers badly and I know nothing about audio. My drivers side front one just blew the other day and the sound sucks. I also have an aftermarket head unit with the factory amp. I'm not looking for a sub or anything, just some decent speakers that i can hear over my exhaust. Right now with the volume up, the bass and vocals clash and it sounds like garbage. Would a simple set of quality speakers give me good semi loud/clear sound or would I need to invest in an amp and other things?

U should be ok doing what I did...get some quality inifinities, links above. They generally fit well with minor tweaking. I posted a pic of 1 of the blown front speakers...LOL. I replaced all but dash...very happy now. Just need an easy way 2 get digital music into stock head unit.

As others have noted, I am not an officianado...and not interested in vibrating the 3rd car down wit da bass. All of my oem speakers were shredded along circumference.

For me, this is one of the most salient "upgrades" I have done. Kinda like the blind guy that can now see, but didn't know he was blind. The detail I can hear now is amazing. Very happy, wish I did it sooner.
