Yes you did. The SOHC ECUs won't work period but the DOHC ECUs will with the exception of the fuel pump relay, boost gauge, boost control solenoid, and fuel pressure solenoid circuits not being there. Any BPU car will be fine. Run a hotwired fuel pump, aftermarket boost gauge, and aftermarket boost controller. You'll be good. The fuel pressure solenoid only works for 2 mins after a hot start and won't really be a problem. An AFPR completely solves that but it isn't 100% necessary either. Yes the knock circuits are identical between the DOHC and VR-4 ECUs so there's no issues there. I have a 98 SL ECU I will be running because the above issues of the DOHC ECU are non-existent with my upgrades.

ok I have the car driving pretty well on the flashed ecu, pte 550s, and a 482 maf. I had some serious issues due to a coupler slipping off. The one that couples the rear turbo pipe to the front merge pipe seems a bit short to me. Anyone know where you can get an extra long 2" coupler? I know silicon intakes sells it by the foot, but I only need about 6" at most.

We bled the crap out of the brakes again and a bunch of bubbles came out of the front driveside caliper. The pedal is rock hard now, so that is fixed.

The car has the usual fmic surging really bad when it is cold outside, going to have to work on that. It also has the cold stutter that it used to have a long time ago. Many of you have probably had it. You go part throttle when the engine is still cold, boost is built and it feels like you hit a wall and you have to let off the gas. I used to have it really bad, but I tuned it out before by adding fuel in the low boost, 2-3K RPM range.

I think adding fuel in that area will help, but I'm going to get the overall fueling perfect before I mess with anything specific. My injector latencies are still tuned a little lean, so I am working on that. It should help slightly, but we'll see if I have to change the injector scaling or not.

It basically drives ok. The transmission feels shitty. It feels like the clutch is dragging sometimes, I'm going to have to test for that. The pedal is adjusted appropriately with a new clutch master cylinder and the slave I installed new 2 years ago. We bled it really well too.

I also have a real piece of shit shifter in there right now that is wack out of adjustment, so I'm going to re-weld my ball bearing shifter that broke last year and see if that doesn't make it feel better.

The engine sounds healthy and has decent oil pressure. About 26 lbs around 1000 rpm. No unusual noises. I will probably change the oil this weekend again since it ran rich for a bit while I was sorting out the intercooler problem.

The flashable ecu's are pretty impressive. You can change 2 values for the maf and switch to an evo maf, setup your injector latencies and scaling, and it will fire up and the tune is actually pretty close off the bat. Tuning them is much more sensible than the piggybacks I've used.

Have you thought about using a 93+ stock shifter?

sure, but I liked the seattle ball bearing shifter until it broke. Right now I am running a hacked up piece of shit 92 shifter that came with the car. It has been cut welded, fucked up, you name it

You sure you didn't steal that from me?

How much more effort does it take to get the car into gear with the seattle?

You can have it back if you bring it to the NG I'm going to keep a spare with me on long trips, LOL. It at least beats the vice grips.

Not a whole lot more effort if your clutch is setup right and your transmission isn't toast.

clutch is starting to chatter a bit. Is it better to try to slip it more to wear it in or take it easy on it?

I'm running an EVO 8 maf now and the 550 injectors with the emanage ultimate zero'd out completely. It fires right up and revs fine sitting in nuetral. I have not gone further because I have no air filter at the moment.

The great news is that I rechecked my compression on the front three since it was warmed up. Oddly one thing I noticed when I cranked it up earlier is that the starter sounded really even like it used to. The compression for the front three comes out to:

    1 3 5
    160 155 160

Just about spot on perfect, I'm super happy. I'm not sure what the problem was before. Maybe it needed just one more heat cycle. I don't know, but I will check it again in a few hundred miles. I also do not hear the noise I hear last time, so it must have been a lifter.

    Thats good news.
