What is a better dyno-Dyno Dynamics or Mustang?

Ok I was at the dealership last week and a guy came in who had a built subaru legacy that he said he had 400whp. He got it tuned by Revolutions performance. I told him I had a 3000gt vr4 that i had tuned by TOBZ in Denver and he had a Mustang dyno. He laughed and said that Mustangs are terrible and give alot higher power numbers. I said are you serious? He tried to act like he knew alot about cars but after talking with him figured not so much. He ended up blowinf up his engine for racing at his limiter and completely blew up his engine.

I guess I just wanted to know what is good? And I know they are both eddy current dynos. But whay is this guy stating this? I thought Mustangs dynos were one of the most accurate and lowest reading dynos?

I've understood Dyno Dynamics to be the most accurate and lowest reading. Iirc they read ~15% lower than Mustang and ~20-25% lower than dynojet. These are general numbers from their website though (and off the top of my head so I could have had a brain fart) not actual back to back comparison data so who knows.

The strength of Dyno Dynamics dynos is the accuracy - they are dead balls on accurate every time. So when you tune with one, or tune and come back to one, you get the most accurate representation of gains.

I had my VR-4 dyno'd on a Dyno Dynamics dyno at Dent Sport Garage - it put down 330awhp & 330awtq at ~15psi with a good tune on pump 93 a year (or so) after I ran the 11.8 @ 116 at ~16psi with a ~25 counts of knock shit ass tune.

To clarify this post, I am addressing the importance of comparing apples to apples. The fact that a number is generated by one dyno is arbitrary until it is corroborated by other performance data like 1/4 mile times which are more universally comperable.

The Mustang puts on lower numbers than the DynoJet. That's all I know. We have a Mustang dyno here at school, and the numbers it puts out are pretty damn accurate and consistent.

lower numbers arnt better either. dyno dynamics is nice to use but the numbers are so low it cant even be right. if i built a dyno that reads 10hp with an 11 sec car would that be the best one? lol the dynojet i have never reads anywhere near the advertised engine hp on any given car. thats already low! 300hp at the engine cars put 220 to the wheels... what good would it be if the reading were 175?? it gets a little silly. last time i tuned on a dyno dynamics in Tn, i couldnt tell if the cars were not right or if it was the dyno. it made me affraid to push them more and made the tuning tool not much use to me.

The only time mustang is better than dyno jet is when some mustang owner starts talking about how he made 560hp last week at so and so's on a dyno jet and your both about to dyno on a mustang. You've dyno'ed on the Mustang before and know you can get down over 500awhp. Mustang owner gets bewildered at his 480hp pull, you smile at your 535.

Over here the only dynos used are DynoDynamics. Some guys are running other brands but I would say 80% of the country are all using DD. There are 3 AWD dyno's in town here and all are DD. A dyno is a tuning tool and you learn to use your tool. Just like Ray said really. He knows his and trusts it which means he can get consistant results every time, however it does cause issues if he tries to use someone else's equipment. To make things worse each country seems to use a different setup somehow and UK dyno's won't even come close to USA numbers. The Aust are close to the USA but I'm not 100% on that either.

My last dyno day people said my dyno read low and there was something wrong with it. Their numbers on my dyno jet were different than another dyno jet 2 towns over. But, from what my dyno puts out, it seems to be right on for what stock cars make. So, I'm not sure what's up with the other one. Hell, someone tried comparing their numbers from a dynapak to my dynojet. That's not even a close comparison considering you don't even dyno with your wheels on using a dynapak LOL.

And numbers don't mean anything. It's a tuning tool. I can have the same car come back on months later and push out the same numbers.
