    diff pin

I have a 92 stealth, rt DOHC, FWD 5 spd. When I bough the car, the trans had a hole blown inside the bellhousing, guy said it was a diff pin that fell out and caused it. I have since picked up a good used trans but before i stick it into the car, I was wondering if there is a simple, cheap fix to keep this pin from falling out. I have googled it, and get lots of mixed results that get me no where, any help/advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Yeah, stronger retaining pins. I don't know if there's a ready made fix for the FWD trans.

how hard would it be to pull it apart, and stick some type of stronger pin in it?

Why not just weld the diff pin to the housing? Saturn owners have been doing this for years now.

They ground the housing down then weld in new material, this way you minimize the amount of weld material that could hit the transmission casing.

If the diff pin fell out there would be more damage than just a hole in the bellhousing. He likely sheered teeth off the diff and they went thru the bellhousing. I've done it four times myself, I should know.

Twisted my pin in half and shot it through the bottom of my trans. Pin and spider gears laying on the road, but no broken teeth and everything still spun ok. New used trans later and I'm back on the road.

I've seen a lot more fragged diff gears than pin failures.

This. People overhype the diff pin failure when the teeth fail at a much higher rate.
