Building a House, Car Mods on hold!
1996 GTO, Owner since 2003.
For the OP...what happens when it rains or snows? Is your car garaged? Can you drive in the rain with this type of a hood??
I took pictures of the rough placement of the vents a while back showing what they are over (Radiator/exhaust manifold/front head) so in theory these parts would have increased corrosion.
people who go for a hood like this are not "oh no my car will will not be shiney when I show people under the hood" they will be "becouse racecar" or "hop in, let me take you for a whirl ;}"
my car is garaged, but it also sits out in the parking lot while i'm at work. only problem you have with it is that you should probably cover the battery (just in case) and you'll have to work harder to keep shit polished. that said, if you want to keep your bay COOLER...this is the way to do it. period. (exempting the removing the hood entirely).
Cianci hood looks very functional. The vents being spread further apart actually makes a bit of sense too. More than likely when air's drawn thru the radiator it hit's the block and "Y" splits to those areas.
Damn those fenders! I've placed them in a shopping cart countless times but could never click "buy" when I saw the $120 shipping fee.
The hood comes with a Kevlar water cover that's removable. It worked but the hood vented much better when I pulled the cover off. The seldom occasions I was caught in weather I never had any issues.
I've never been concerned with the elements in owning an open vented hood. My concerns have always been with leaves and road debris. When you park under a tree in the fall leaves work their way into the engine bay. 1200 degree turbos and dry leaves can spell FIRE so you have to be conscientious about where you park and check the engine bay frequently.
As for road debris, crap snakes its way into the engine bay thru the vents. There's potential risk of a rock clipping a belt or something along those lines. If you run timing covers, sparkplug covers, and air filters you have veryy little to worry about regarding road debris.
I could see how some would think removing the hood helps to keep cool. I've never ran hoodless but I'm going to guess without a hood a large portion of air normally captured and drawn thru the radiator fins is traveling around it making it cool less efficient?
It could do with a vent by the rear turbo though as all the vents are way in front of it.
