    CCW Holders...

I have a question for you. For those of you with concealed carry licenses, do you carry with one in the pipe? I am taking my CCW course this Saturday and then filing for the permit on Monday.

I know that it's not a great idea to carry without one in the chamber as if you do get stuck in a life-threatening situation, you generally don't have time to rack the slide. I have shot guns for a long time now, and I know safety discipline inside and out. However, I do feel just a bit nervous carrying with one in the pipe on a gun that doesn't have a locking safety. I was almost thinking about carrying for a little while with a mag in and no round in the chamber until I get more comfortable with it. What did everyone else here do in the beginning?

Did you carry one in from the day you started?

Also, good job on getting a ccw in Cali. You must have patience.

I've carried one in the chamber since day one. I have more faith in myself to not accidentally discharge it then I do in society being civil and upstanding. Like you said, the last thing you want to worry about is racking the slide when a threat is charging at you..not to mention if for some reason your partially incapacitated and only have one hand/arm available.

Don carries a revolver with speed loaders, so it is ready to go. But if he decides to carry the P12 or P230, there is always one in the chamber (but he has holsters). But the p12 has a hammer block.

most ccw classes have you do some shooting, so if you are new on how to handle a hand gun they offer training, after this you should feel safe to keep ypur gun chambered, good luck

Thanks! I've shot guns my whole life and I've put well over 1,000 rounds through the gun I will be using as a ccw. The class I'm taking does have a two part course. One part in the classroom and one part on the range. It's more of carrying a gun with a live round chambered than the actual handling of the gun for me. I'm hoping after taking the class and drawing from a concealed carry position I will be more comfortable with it.

One in the pipe, and a well designed holster. Only pull it if ready, and willing to use it. Pulling it otherwise is irresponsible, stupid, and dangerous. (period)

Been on the board of a range for 5 years, and a part of the safety comity for most of it.

Mad props for you concern and willingness to ask about it...

Help them, for they know not that which they do not know!

Oh, absolutely. Not only should someone not draw unless they plan on using it, you shouldn't even make it public that you are carrying. I appreciate all the feedback I'm getting.

I carried one in the pipe with a Keltec with no safety and on Clip Draw setup. I also have 2 Glocks both I carry one in the pipe with a custom Kydex holster for them. But my job for the Army for the past 8 years has been a cop.
