    Question Warranty question

OK, here's the deal. My wife's Caddy had the battery go bad when the vehicle was under bumper to bumper warranty. This was in April of 2008. Local GM dealer replaced it, obviously. The replacement battery is a 72 month genuine AC Delco.

Today, the battery goes bad again. My wife calls the dealer, and they say "It was replaced under warranty. You no longer have that warranty. We paid for the battery, therefore the warranty on the battery doesn't apply since you did not pay for it yourself". WTF? I understand the vehicle no longer has any warranty, but that changes all of nothing concerning the 72 month warranty that the battery itself carries? They didn't pay for shit, it would be just like any other warranty item..dealer takes the initial hit and invoices corporate for reimbursement. I know it would be into pro-rated territory now, rather than full replacement, but they owe me that pro-rated amount.

    amirite?

You are right. Go over their heads. Corporate will rip them a new one.

Sorry but they took care of the warranty for the time you had it. You can't extend the warranty by having a part replaced toward the end of it. The cool thing for them to do would be try and get the battery manufacturer to pro rate it but if your contract is up with them then they don't have to do anything. It will cost them man hours and such dealing with this. I would try and take the battery to a AC Delco dealer and see if they will pro rate it.

paul has the best answer. car may be out of warranty, but the battery should still be. get with the battery MFG directly to file a claim.

Along the lines of what the dealership is saying, the warranty may be non-transferable, and it was bought by the dealership, therefore they are the warranty holders. They are saying they won't touch it since the car is out of warranty. Like said above, I would think that the best course of action is with the battery manufacturer. Do you have a receipt of the battery replacement to place a date on it?

Yes, I can get it from the dealer, they ackowledge it was replaced 04/2008(plus batteries have serial numbers). For now I replaced it with an Auto Craft, and I'll see what I can get out of AC Delco.

The Advance Auto I went to yesterday, said they replaced 6 of the same battery yesterday...all on GM trucks. Interesting...
