I bought a couple of these when they first came out for my own car and a customers build... I didn't have a chance to get mine working until after the 2nd gen was released, so I upgraded before It was ever installed. I thought I'd share what I did:
First my choice of mounting point. I simply velcro'd it to the shifter cable bracket...
My location for the switch is right under the center of the column. Since it's so well hidden, I wasn't worried much about a knob, A 1/4" vacuum cap worked great. (this is the original rotary switch, I'm not sure there's room to do this with the new one mounted to a circuit board)
Now here's where it gets good.... I immediately saw an opportunity to pull a MacGyver and make a very low cost, extremely cool add on for this thing. Before I even contacted Antero about doing it, I went out to the parts shed, and scrounged the parts I needed to build my end. This is what I ended up with.
Now in case you didn't pick up on what I did from the pics, I used a GM ignition module to fashion a pump driver module for my water meth pump.... Now all I needed was 5V pulse width modulated controller to run it.
Gee, I wonder where I could get one of those...?
After a few PM's, Antero(Blackstealth) said he could do it... So when my upgrade board arrived, it had an extra cable hanging off it.
It took us a couple tries to get the code right, but amazingly, he had this whole thing whipped out in no time... I was starting to get a little worried about a pump surge problem I was having around 75% duty cycle. We came to the conclusion that it was primarily due to the low frequency of 31hz. since the output used had to be matched in frequency to the boost solenoid output, Antero didn't want to speed it up for fear of problems with the boost solenoid. I was a bit stumped, and in the meantime added a flyback diode to the motor that we had talked about. To my complete surprise, that entirely eliminated the surge. Yay... back on track
So here's some shot's of the current ramp on a scope, and the pressure output shown on graphing muti-meter. First at 30% duty cycle, and then at 100%.
I just wanted to share my experience. Primarily just how awesome it has been to deal with Antero on this whole deal.... He was all about making this happen for no reason other than making something cool, and the possibility of expanding the capabilities of his design. He didn't charge me a dime extra to build the code, only for the materials used.(And I did offer, and fully expected to have to pay for his time..)
