Absolutely Necessary systems

Trying to put my vr4 motor and tranny in and just get it running to find leaks, noises, etc so I can rip it out again quickly if I have to. What all can j run the car without? Axles out?
No xcase?
Open tbody safe on fresh cylinde walls or will it wash out?

Also, fuck broken tranny fill plug spouts.

Just put the engine and tranny in on the hoist and maybe tighten down the side mounts to make sure there's no excessive movement. Wire up the injectors and other necessary sensors (no emissions garbage). Battery, fuel lines, I would just put a 90 degree elbow on the TB and then somehow the MAF with a filter on the end so it can meter air.
