    Charter Cable: Legal Question

    Short version...

I called tech support the other night with some problems and they offered me a (cost per day) trial of their fastest package. I called them today as my internet actually slowed down and it was determined that my modem doesn't support speeds that fast as it's only docsis 2.

Also, the lady I spoke with today quoted me different speeds than the one who offered me the package. I was originally quoted upload speeds of 10Mbps and today I was told it's only 5Mbps. Do they have a legal obligation to give me the first offer?

You would need to prove it. plus charter doesn't even offer a 5MB or 10MB package on charter.com the lowest to are 1MB and 12MB.

they may offer a plan at a certain price but maybe your area doesn't have the capacity or something?

Do you really think you are going to sue them??

Not going to sue them but calls are recorded and if they said 10 megs then why not try and get that?

don't push it. it could always be worse (your name could be corey, for one thing)--but in all seriousness, you could have time-warner or comcast instead of charter. count your blessings.

^Whats your beef with Time-Warner? Granted it sucks if you call the national/statewide offices trying to get internet.. I just got internet only through them, called the local office and got it the next day. $30 for a router/install(new cables even), $40 a month for a 15mbps down and 1mbps up connection... Know whats funny?

    This:

I was trying to get AT&T Uverse and was on hold for 20 minutes twice. The second time I finally got through and all they offer around here is 3mbps and 6mbps...Im not going with 6..Screw that, plus it was $45 IIRC. Plus their website had different prices and much higher connections offered..

because TW and comcast are the WORST about throttling & bandwidth caps. only at&takeyouintheass is worse.

sure, the PRICE seems ok, but the SERVICE and fine-print is what kills it. that, and the fact that their goddamn lobbiests bought out bev perdue, so now municipal internet is dying a painful death just so big telecoms can continue to pad their fat wallets.

    FUCK!

I've also got TW for internet only, $30 a month, and I get 15-18Mbit down and about 500-600k up. No complaints, especially considering I'm only paying for the 7Mbit plan, and have never seen my download go lower than 14.5Mbit.

Even if they said it was a 10mb package it is "UP TO" 10 mb. Its not 10mb minimum. You really have no recourse.
