Thread: Mother Inlaw Problems..

    Mother Inlaw Problems..

So, I'm living with my fiance and 5 month old son at what is basically my mother in-laws old rent house. Shes not charging rent, but instead I pay for up keeps and what not.. I pay all the bills, buy all the groceries, and even took over all the stuff of my fiances she was still paying. I have a small car port on the side of the house that my 3000GT is jacked up under while I work on the engine right next to where my fiance parks the Tahoe I am paying for for her. Well Tonight I come home and she (my fiance) informs me that her mother texted her to inform me that my "broke down" car needs to be fixed or gone soon and if I decide to buy another car (I've been looking for a project car) it needs to be parked at my step dads house (my parents divorced so he's not even technically related to me anymore) At the same time I have a rusted out shitty Corvair body sitting in my back yard she wont let me sell or get rid of cause its her sons, who moved to Michigan years ago to get away from her.. Anyone else have problems like this or am I just lucky?

Well, to be fair, it is her house. It seems like you are throwing in a share of contribution. Truth be told, I'd try and move out into an apartment for the time being. Regardless of anything, ultimate decision comes down to the home owner, like it or not. Not really a matter of who is on who's side.

I'd move out. Let your MIL pay for the house if thats the way she wants to act. Your car isn't causing any problems.

Your assumption must be that she wants you to leave.

Give her what she wants, and ask your fiance to keep things with her mother "light" while you make arrangements .

Ignore any begging that may occur.

I’ve been in the situation, if she wants to tell you what to do and you’re not paying rent then you have to do it or move out. I moved out

Even if you offer to pay rent she is still going to want to tell you what to do. Hell MIL will do that no matter what but if you don't rely on her at all you can tell her to get bent.

Edit: I'd have my fiancée text her back that you guys are moving out.

You might intimate to your fiance that her moms is becoming overbearing, and the only way you can see to alleviate the burden is to deal her Tahoe so you can move.

She might take matters in hand.

Honestly you shouldn’t have bought it right now. Financial independence is a great thing. Buy a cheap beater until you can afford a car payment.

It's possible that the car simply isn't allowed to be parked like that. In my neighborhood, a car up on jacks is only allowed inside the garage. Not on the driveway, (even though we have alleys here) and certainly not in the driveway if you have a front facing garage. It doesn't look good, and neighbors may be complaining to her about it.
