Covered Residential Walkway

Has anyone seen these in a residential application? More specifically, connecting the 2nd floors of a house & garage?

Just frame it as an independent structure and tie it in. to the existining structures. It's kinda tough for me to really help you without some pctures. But this technique would work well. It all depends what your plans are calling for. Open, closed, windows, stairs.....etc.

I want it only to connect the two buildings, as though it were an external breezeway but maybe with a couple windows w/siding and a roof. My guess is it would be about 15 - 20' long. I can't find any pics.

I am confused. Do you want it elevated, or to have two floors? Do you want it finished on the inside? It's pretty easy to figure even without pics. Measurements are all I really need, or a sketch would be great with some aprox measurements.

I don't have any measurements yet, it would be elevated to connect the 2nd floor of my house to the 2nd floor of the garage. I was just wondering if anyone has seen something like this in a residential application. I only see them in big city hospitals or parking garages.

I've seen some before on tv shows like House Hunters, where it's a really expensive house, and there is a guest house next to the main house, with the guest quarters above the garage. Some I've seen are enclosed, some are just a covered walkway with railings. Adding something like that would be pretty expensive I'm sure.

I have seen and worked on the design of these. There is nothing magical about them. Relax, it's a simple straight structure. The only real problem is how elaborate you want to be with the finishing. If you are interested, send me a pm. I can put together a CAD drawing and a material list. I do need to know things like snow loads, measurements, basic idea of soil type, intended foundation, siding type, window type, number of doors, roof type (metal/shingle), will it be insulated, and how deep are your pockets?

Is it just going to be covered (open to the elements but has a roof) or enclosed (like a hallway)? Sounds pretty easy, unless you're spanning distances that require structural steel or engineered lumber.
