    Auction discussion/donation thread for Chris Hill

    EDIT: Auction link http://chrishill.carolina3s.org/

    Direct donation paypal
    --->vicki.d.hill@gmail.com<----

    Many people have come forward willing to donate parts/stuff for a possible auction to help Chris Hill pay for treatments/bills while he fights cancer. So if anybody has any ideas on a way to pull it off or has something they would like to donate for an auction please post up.

    My post from another thread

    Anybody have any ideas on how we could do it? Maybe an ebay page with all the stuff people donated. When the auction ends and Chris or Vicki confirms payment the person that donated the part sends it out? Maybe to save them the hassle of dealing with it we could use somebody else’s paypal and ebay account then just forward the money to them when it’s over.
    I can update this first post with the people who have something they would like to donate. We are just talking about this now. It might be easier to sell the stuff ourselves then send the money to them IDK. Let me know what you guys think.

    eBay is going to be really a slippery slope. Best bet would try to sell it on the forums. If you go the eBay route, you might as well deduct 15% of the selling price, because that is approximately what the eBay/PayPal fees are going to be in the end.

    Also another interesting point was brought up in conversation. How much money can you receive in the form of PayPal gift? I would hate for the account to get frozen, and if you haven't worked with PayPal, they are a royal PITA.

    Good points April, I wonder if ebay has some sort of charity plan where the fees are much lower. The reason I’d like to do ebay is I’d think we could get more money than just putting them on the boards.

    I bet there would have to be some kind of documentation, like an actual charity or non-profit organization.

    This would probably be something that Vicki would want to look into. It appears to be fees though

    If there is a trusted member that's a powerseller, they pay less in fees so you could try that route. Otherwise, there's always the boards.

    Direct paypal donations shouldn't be an issue, an account in good standing that is yet to receive a warning will usually be given a slap on the wrist for receiving too many gift payments before freezing the account. Often, this is also in conjuction of receiving a ton of payments that have notes attached to them like "payment for xxx". You could always call paypal and see if a special account could be set up in their name for donation purposes.

    Maybe someone get some shirts or stickers made and sell them on the forums with all proceeds going to chris and vicki. Thats what I have seen on other forums and it seems to work pretty well.

    We've been going through a lot of our stuff, too, adding to a pile for offering. We know we have to part with the Wagoneer, the short bus and lastly the VR4, but we are also looking at all extra parts we have, tools and etc. While I am still trying to figure out some of the legal bits, rest assured that I am working on trying to figure something out. I will gladly accept advise from anyone who has organized and completely something similar.

    Put one or two parts up on a thread for 3 days, winning buyer donates to the PP acct. withing 24 hrs. If not paid in 24 hrs it goes to the next highest bidder. Shuffle through one to three parts at a time on the front page until gone. Seller must post pics of item, and PM name telly, and addy to person in charge of thread.

    Keeps cost down, and could be fun as well...

    Help them, for they know not that which they do not know!
