yeah exactly my point..stock brakes are pretty good! if your going to make all the effort of changing, you REALLY want something that's much better.

I wouldn't say the Q7/Touraeg/Cayenne brakes are much better either...

they appear to take a far larger pad and over 34mm thick rotor?

If you're on the track they might be better, but for 99% of 3S owners the stock brakes with good pads are fine. Yes, if you really want the looks and extra heat abating qualities a BBK can't be beaten.

They are massive in comparison. Porsche overengineers a lot of their stuff, and the brakes are no exception, especially when they have to stop a 5k lb SUV that can do 160+mph.

Considering R/T93 is running on the track with stock calipers with the SCE rotors and upgraded pads I'd have to say it's not at all necessary to upgrade to something so massive with that kind of weight penalty.

Yeah, these look "baller" and yes they have more heat capacity, is it necessary? There's a weight disadvantage, a cost disadvantage, asize disadvantage (you need to run bigger wheels), and the "you look like a ricer using Porsche brakes" disadvantage when you're not on the track.

Stop driving like an asshole or buy better rotors. I beat the piss out of my VR-4 on occasion and never once wrecked a rotor, not my OEM rotors nor a set of Carbotech blanks.

By that logic, it isn't exactly necessary to upgrade turbos to larger ones. I'm not arguing whether they are necessary or not, but compared to our stock brakes, they will outperform in every way. (Even regards to weight, the rotor weighs more, but the caliper itself is only slightly heavier than stock TT calipers.)

For those of you who want to do this, by the way, there are 3 different sizes of brakes for the Cayenne. The V6 gets a 4 piston caliper with 330mm rotors. (Still a good improvement over stock.) The S and Turbo both use the same brakes, but the caliper color is silver for some S models, and red for the turbo models, but it's the same 6 piston caliper, and 350mm rotor. Then there's the Turbo S, with an even bigger caliper, with 380mm rotors.

My advice would be to find the silver calipers, as a lot of people errantly assume that they are the V6 calipers, and charge less.
