    Buying a 94' VR4 Tomorrow. I have a couple questions....

In August 2011, I sold my 94 SL and bought a 2005 Grand Prix GXP. I have missed the 3k ever since and have recently came across a 94 VR4 for a decent price. Problem is the owner things the engine is blown. Upon further review over the phone it appears to me to be the lifters. He said it started after changing the oil. He started the car and after that it was making the noise. He said it does not get much louder as the car revs but that the noise sticks through the whole time. Oil pressure is great, the car is still making good boost and the car gets up to temp fine. He also says the car runs and drives okay.

My question is.....what do you think it would be with those things being the case?

    It has 123k miles.

    Thanks Guys

Here is a under the hood shot of the car.

and a quote from what is done with the car.

    "computer is also remap..
greedy turbo timer and boost controllers 150 each
hks blow of valve cost 129
have stock and 580cc injectors for more power cost 599
    have a n02 kit uninstalled cost 300
leather seats were just upholister so they look brand new
has sun roof that is removable and can be stored in trunk..

comes with nice bortex racing wheels and tires .cost over 2000 by it self tires have 80 percent thread left..

cars has shaved doors, remote start, remote door opening
new battery wih 4 yrs warranty
    new timming belt
    new water pump
    new oil pump
Ahhh, One last fix. And it would literally be perfect for ......prolly a week BUT! thats still a week of perfection.

That engine bay looks pretty rigged. I'd take it to get inspected by a mechanic

My father is coming down with me, he is a certified mechanic. He is leery about the car right now so we plan on doing a thorough inspection. I only had a 94 SL prior to this therefore I do not know the engine bays of a vr4. What looks out of place?

Bearing, Treat it that way anyway. I doubt he would be letting it go real cheap if it was a lifter.

I'd try and get him down a bit more. If it has a spun bearing (and you should believe it) then you could have a lot of work on your hands.
