First and foremost, what do you want to do with the gun? If it is just home protection I wouldn't recommend getting a .44 Magnum as it only holds six rounds and is a bit of a handful for that sort of thing. Good gun for hunting or bear protection though. I have a Springfield XD 9mm and it is phenomenal. Springfield Armory has great customer service, and the XD is VERY reliable. I have shot over 1,000 rounds out of mine without any FTF or FTE. Personally, the XDm is a waste of money unless you need replaceable grips and a mag that holds a few more rounds for an extra $200. .45 is a decent home defense gun. Though, if you plan on taking it to the range from time to time just get a 9mm. You can plink around all day with a 9mm without spending too much. .45 ACP ammo is expensive, and in my opinion, a fat, lazy, and slow ammunition. Not only that, you can usually only hold between 8-13 rounds in a mag. Get some home defense rounds for a 9mm for home and you're good to go.
Or if you just want a fun gun with some good kick (expensive ammo), get a .44 mag. I did just for the hell of it.![]()
