Recommendations for front plate on bumper?

My '91 Stealth is currently being repainted and I have to decide what to do with the front plate. Formerly the front plate was held on by a hideous bracket that stuck out a couple noticeable inches off the front of the bumper. I hate that IL requires a front plate, but unless I switch my tags I have to AR I have to live with that.

I was considering mounting the plate in the vent/grill area so it isn't sticking out or overly noticeable since I think it looks terrible. I am afraid of blocking some of the air flowing in to the engine though. Does anyone have any suggestions what other options I should look at or what I should do?

    Thanks!

My 92 has a front bracket but it doesn't stick out at all. Maybe try picking up a different bracket? I only put mine on once when I got a ticket for no front plate, otherwise it has been off every day for about 8 years....looks so much better.

I took a piece of aluminum, about 12"x2". Put 4 holes in it, 2 for the plate and 2 for those two screws down there. Its basically an adapter. I made it yesterday, got my plates, and have not tested out if there is a big temp change. Ill also post some pics. Austin, I see your also from NY. Do you know whether or not the front plate is required? Because I know that if the police stops a 3S their only going to see the back plate. (eghh, that joke was not too funny)

I personally don't like front licence plates on american cars in particular but if I had to choose, the way austin has is the cleanest or you can do something like this.

So you leave it down, until you get pulled over then you remote put it up.

It is required in New York state, however for the most part you can drive around without one.
