    Dilema: lost keys to car

So I get this '93 VR4 the day before I leave for Indy with my '96 and I have keys on an alarm remote for it. I trailer it home due to it having a bad rear tire, it comes off the trailer into the pole garage and I load the white VR4 onto the trailer for the NG trip. I get a few hours of shut-eye then leave for Indy at 1 AM on Wed. We arrive at Indy, have fun for the week and I head back home right after the banquet. I get home, get a few hours of sleep and then cut grass before leaving on a seven hour trip to northern Mich for work related training for a week. I then get home from the Mich trip around midnight on Thurs June 30th and am up cutting grass on Friday and getting ready to leave on Saturday to go to Florida for a week. I get back this past Sunday night and have spent Monday, Tuesday and today looking for the keys for the '93 VR4 without any success. I left in such a rush for Indy and it has been over 3 weeks ago, I have no Idea where the freakin' keys are at. Damn, I feel like my 89 yr old mother... looking for her keys without success.
Here's the big question; Can I go to a Mitsu dealer with the VIN and have them cut me keys? I had a Dodge dealer cut me a key for my mom's Stratus when we were down there off of a VIN and it worked just fine, so I was wondering if anyone has ever has that done for a 3S?

You will probably need.proof of ownership as well, registration card, insurance card, something like that. They can cut it from your vin, assuming its the original ignition cylinder.

Thanks, Em. We had to do that with my Mom at the FL. dealership, provide proof of ownership and her State ID since she doesn't drive anymore. Only bitch about her "losing" her keys is the Stratus is a Chip car, so they could only cut me a door key so I could gain access to the vehicle. In order to get an ignition key, they said the car has to be towed to the dealership so they can do a programming session with the car to a new key. Sucks as the car has no current registration or insurance, so it would have to be towed both ways.

A locksmith can do it, and I believe it would be a lot cheaper than going to the dealership. They can do the work right there in the driveway.

Depends on the dealership. The dealership I bought my parts from offered to cut me a new key and my blank keys for free, didn't even ask.

Locksmith will be a few hundred dollars. Dealership is like $15.

Have a girl go to the dealership with the last 8 of the VIN and they will cut you a key with no proof of ownership.

When you do go to the dealership, ask them for the cut code. Then you can bring this code to any locksmith with the code cutting machine and it's usually way cheaper. Then if you lose it again you don't need to pay the dealership and bring documentation...

Hundreds of dollars for a locksmith? That hasn't been my experience. I took a door lock cylinder to a locksmith and they cut a new key for $20. Removing the door lock is easy and only took 30min.

If a dealership can do it for only $15 then obviously that's the better route.

Is he towing the car to the locksmith? Or pulling the door handles or ignition cylinder out?
