Rant: iTunes account hacked. Apple refuses to refund purchases.

Got some gift cards to stupid iTunes for Christmas and so I loaded them on my account $50 worth. I spent $20 of it in Feb and left it sitting until a few days ago. I log in to make some purchases and $0.98 is left. Turns out some asian douchebag somehow got into my account and purchased some Gaga, Bieber, insert other crappy artists here, and a ton of Asian music I can't even make out. Apple refuses to refund the money "as these purchases are too old to be reversed." As if I needed another reason to hate Apple.

Now, I'm not one to put up bad passwords. I know all about password strength, which is why I wish Apple would permit symbols in passwords. I can only assume the offender (through some sophisticated software) searches for posted email addresses on the internet and brute-forces the password to access the account if it exists under said email. The only alternative would be a keylogger but anti-virus shows none and registry is clean, plus I'd imagine a lot more stuff of mine would be hacked (like credit cards and gaming accounts).

Conclusion: screw iTunes. Going to Amazon where passwords with symbols are allowed and I don't feed the Jobs machine.

Conclusion: use a seperate email account that you never post on the internet to run your accounts. This wouldn't be an issue if these companies allowed an actual user name instead of signing in with an email address.

Despite what people think, Apple has been terrible with their products recently, and have been relying on brand power to sell constant new versions of their Ipod, so that people buy the ipod, the ipod phone, the extra large ipod, etc. It works well for now but the cracks are showing.
"This is a ridiculous cause and effect suggestion."
"Yeah, kind of like the sun rising and then morning happening, eh? What are they trying to pull on us?"

"If I wanted to hear from an asshole, I'd fart into a microphone."

"It's easy. Take the last f*ck, and let it go, and thus you shall have no more f*cks to give."

Well, I won't blame Apple singularly for not refunding, especially if my account was brute-forced. On the other hand, if their servers were somehow hacked like Sony's, you best believe I'd be all over them like white on rice. I just think their excuse that the "purchases are too old to be reversed" is weak.

    Must. Resist.

But seriously, that's BS, and a lame excuse on their behalf.

Sorry to hear about your account, man.

Just for the record, Apple does allow you (and even encourages you) to use symbols in your password. I know this because I use some in mine. You can also use a mixture of upper and lowercase, plus numbers, to make your password a bit more resilient against brute-force attacks.

It still sucks when this happens. Amazon is a good service though, and good deals... I didn't hesitate for second when that Lady Gaga album went on sale for 99 cents. Woooooo.

    Just kidding.

Thanks. I tried using symbols, numbers, and mixed case letters but it kept saying the password was invalid. IDK why that's the case if those are all legal.

I'm not sure either. Did you try changing it through the website? Or elsewhere?

    https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/We...MyAppleId.woa/

I know both Amazon and Apple reserve certain symbols, but most should work.

Did it through iTunes. Of course I can't try again as Apple has deactivated my account. :P I was able to create an Amazon account with the password I wanted though.
