my friend has an 05 GTO 6.0 and It's a blast, the tremec 6spd is amazing. the IRS is good and bad. good in that the thing is a drift machine, and kicks out so nice, and makes anyone look like a bad ass, but bad in that wheel hop sucks. also, the cam in that car is basically maxed out from the factory. scott got headers, full exhaust, a cold air intake, and had it professionally tuned by people who specialize in GTO's, but it now runs a second slower in the quarter, and pops like crazy below mid 3000rpms. this will be fixed with a cam, and it will be a ton faster with the aforementioned mods, you just have to get a cam before anything else will really work.

EDIT: what about a genesis turbo, or i think the 2012 model genesis is supposed to have a v8 option?

first of all, pontiacs are goats, not GTO's. second, RWD isn't good for a DD if you see snow. third, needs vary depending on what you want, how you drive, and what you do.

i would buy a 4g camaro/firebird over a goat--especially a convertible. sportier, more fun. if small econobox was what i was looking for, the new ford focus is BAD-ASS! if i was needing a bit of utility to boot, a vehiCROSS is what i'd rock.

I have an f350 for winter driving so that isn't really a factor. I test drove a 6.0L gto with 7k on it yesterday. The thing was a absolute joy to drive. I need to find an evo to test drive but the 6.0L 6 speed is going to be very hard to beat.

    Current:
    1972 Chevy Nova
    2004 Ford F350 Lariat 6.0L
    1991 Stealth TT FWD
    1962 Volkswagen Beetle

    Previous:
    1994 Stealth RT/TT
    1999 3000gt SL
    1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle
    1976 Jaguar XJ6
    1991 Chevy S10
    2000 Ford focus

I was looking at LS2 GTOs last year when deciding on my next car (had it narrowed down to GTO, 350Z or S2000). I drove my friend's heads/cammed LS1 GTO running E85 making about 400whp and it was quite fun. The interior is much nicer than say the older GMs and probably even better than the new Camaros really. There was a ton of room inside if you needed to fit things or even people. The back seat was roomy. The only real con to the car besides the weight is that many people think it looks too plain. I personally think that with the 05+ hood and 06 taillights they look just fine. Add some tint and rims and you're all set. They're definitely a more low-key car that blends in which in many ways is a good thing.

For the record I ended up picking the S2000 because it was by far the most fun of the three to drive. Can't beat tossing that thing around. Heck, maybe you'd like one as well :P This is where I will shamelessly suggest you go test drive one.
