It's not about that. Like I said, I wear my helmet most of the time when riding, but on those few occasions where I just want to go for a nice leisurely ride on some back roads and feel the wind on my face, I won't. To be honest, if a car (or in my case, SUV or Truck since that's basically all there is on the roads in TX) hits me, a helmet is only going to do so much. I'm ok with jumping through a few hoops to be able to ride without a helmet, and from my own experience, it's the kids right out of high school who go out and buy a liter bike as their first bike that are most in need of wearing a helmet.

Motorcycle airbag...? How is that going to work? Build a bubble around the rider..Please show me a link to one.
Also AgentOblivious..What does your dad do that he knows the organs are usually intact?

I think helmets should be by choice. I wear mine nearly all the time, only time I dont is if I ride less than mile in town and Im always very paranoid of other drivers whether Im in a car or on a bike.

It seems that besides open casket vs. closed casket, its also paralyzed vs. dead.....

I wonder if it costs insurance companies more for deaths or for paralyzed individuals?

Wear a helmet. I'm not arguing law, just do it. My dad would be dead if he hadn't and I'd be with serious head trauma if I didn't.

i've known a few people who were killed while obeying all laws, going within the speed limits, and wearing full protective gear.

so yes, helmets won't save you. they could...but it's not a guarantee.

Would a fireman fight a fire without proper PPE?

I don't think so, and I don't believe I've seen them lobbying to fight fires weaing shorts and tank-tops.

Firemen dying on the job is not unheard of, either.

If you want the wind in your hair, sit in front of a fan.

To you clowns who say, "But I have insurance...", I would say, 'You shouldn't have any claim on the premium I pay when you crack your skull on the pavement, and your self-proclaimed expertise in riding a motorcycle ain't gonna get it done, either.'

Its called a motocycle airbag jacket

Dainese D-Air Motorcycle Air Bag - webBikeWorld

Motorcycle Air Bag Jacket: a must have item

Also I would never ride my bike without a helmet no matter how good I think I am. Even tho Im in a state where legally I can ride without one. There are to many variables out there on the road for me to not have all my gear on.

Even helmets with no face guard will help to an extent, and yes, like all helmets, they only go so far...that could be the difference between spending a couple days in hospital with internal organ damage and broken bones, the rest of your life in a wheelchair, or worse. I raced karts for a bit (yes I know, not the same as bikes) and I've seen crashes where the driver will flip 2-3 times and land upside down, and having a helmet and neck protection on let him walk away from an accident that he wouldn't have walked away from if he hadn't been wearing a helmet.

So really, I guess the objection would be what? Helmet hair? That the boys won't see your new 'do as you're riding by? LOL

"This is a ridiculous cause and effect suggestion."
"Yeah, kind of like the sun rising and then morning happening, eh? What are they trying to pull on us?"

"If I wanted to hear from an asshole, I'd fart into a microphone."

"It's easy. Take the last f*ck, and let it go, and thus you shall have no more f*cks to give."
