I just popped in my new rear main seal and it is pushed in approximately 3/32" from the outer lip on the housing. Is this far enough in or too far? That is where it was when I pulled it so I put it back to how it was
That being said, there is a maximum of 1/32" fluctuation from the part on the seal that is most recessed to the location that is least recessed. I have read that getting it into the correct depth AND evenly is crucial, so is that minor change in depth going to be the difference between leak and no leak? I will pop it in a hair more if it is that important but I do not want to risk sinking it in too far or making the difference larger if that is acceptable enough for being "even."
