thanks for the leason. i just bought my son a 95 3000gt and im researching the car a little. its radio is locked out and its making some noise at the trans. you can here it through the wheel well sound like a timing chain slapping on an old chevy. i need to check the fluid in it.
there's two ways you can get the radio to reset to where you can enter codes. if memory serves, you either have to disconnect the battery for a certain length of time, or you have to leave the key in the accessory position for an hour or so (it's been a LONG time since i had to do this). make sure you pull the radio out so you can get the serial number off it. giving that serial number to a mitsubishi dealership is the easiest way to get the code to unlock it.
transmission noise (especially on ATX) can certainly be a problem with fluid being too low. if you have a manual, it could be that a bolt has worked itself loose, or something else. either way, if the previous owners did NOT properly maintain the transmission, you might very well ending up having to rebuild/replace it. mitsubishi's transmissions are very reliable--provided they are well maintained. if maintenance was skimped on, catastrophic problems can result. the same holds true for the engines as well. this is a large part of the reason why mitsubishi has a word-of-mouth record of being "unreliable". people expect that you can just run the car into the ground in maintenance free bliss, just like you could do with a small block chevy and an old 3-speed POS hydramatic. take good care of it, and it will take good care of you. just be prepared to un-f**k everything that the previous owners may have done to it.
hello everyone, i just found this site while looking for info on transmission swaps for my 94 3000gt from my 92 SL.
