fair enough. resurrect the probe & give it ecoboost awd. fuck the stang.

They need a sho coupe with a 6 speed and stay awd. By the way I heard that the mustang is getting a 4 cylinder Eco boost engine.

a sho coupe would fit the bill nicely. either way, ford needs to put out a 2-door or a 2-door fastback with AWD and ecoboost v6. even making it out of a fusion wouldn't be a terribly bad idea; but i'm thinking that resurrecting the probe probably wouldn't be a bad idea either. browsing different forums has lead me to believe that even among die-hard mustang fans, there's a desire for an AWD mustang; people hate parking them for 5-6 months out of the year (at least in canada).

ford would probably have to offer a rowing machine to satiate the purists, but i have a feeling that the original, paddle-shifted slushbox will grab a lion's share of the sales--and rightfully so. it's kind of funny how many ford fans think that AWD is the province of 4-bangers only.

i don't think that mustang will get a 4-cylinder ecoboost. the 3.7L, 300hp base model engine is more powerful than the 4-banger ecoboost (roughly 40hp), and i'm not sure that ford could sell it at enough of a lower price to get people to buy it vs. the 3.7L. the 3.5L ecoboost makes the most sense, as it fits directly between the GT and the base--as far as HP (365hp in the SHO). it wouldn't be very hard to boost it well past a massaged 5.0L v8 though--as i'm sure tuners would do. (i doubt svt would do it though, as there's liable to be some conniptions over a turbo v-6 that's laying down numbers that would give stock cobras a run for the money).

    p.s.
just imagine what the 300hp 3.7L could do with 8:1 compression & some 16g's.

    p.p.s.
after reviewing the current chassis's that ford is currently using, it may be possible for them to use the b3, the c1, or the DEW (from which the mustang was derived). all of these have at least one AWD offering manufactured on the platform. i think the c1 is probably the most attractive option (same platform as the focus). since it is smaller than the DEW, it can somewhat compensate for the additional weight of AWD components. all that's really needed is body-work for a 2-door fastback like the probe, and then the drivetrain from the larger taurus SHO downsized to fit this new form-factor. i'd be willing to bet that it could hit the market for ~$30,000
