My DSM, new setup, shooting for 9s.

Okay as most of you know I went 10.61@127.9 with the billet 16g and a stock longblock. I put the ENTIRE setup into my 91 talon that is full weight full exhaust daily car that I am currently letting my mom drive because she needs a car. Her car has my entire engine, tranny, torque converter, turbo, fmic, dsmlink v3, literally everything! The only differences is that this blue car is on a stock exhaust and is on a single intank walbro 255 vs my race cars no exhaust and dual inline walbros with fuel cell.

I put the entire setup into this car because I was not going to go much faster with this turbo. I was maxing it out. Also, the blue car had no engine. And lastly because it is a stock engine that is very healthy and can last a while at 10-25psi on e85, and I want to go faster. If I put a bigger turbo on the stock engine I will end up blowing it and wasting a good engine that can have a great life in the other car.

    So my new setup is
    TURBO
-FP3575 turbo, bolt on mitsu housing, custom made by FP a while back. It is good for 75lbs/min, has a 67mm compressor wheel. The turbine housing has a custom built in vband external gate with a tial wastegate and a 3 in vband downpipe.
    -FP race manifold
    -FP intake with 4x6 cone

    ENGINE
    -9:1 Wiseco HD pistons
-Manley turbo tough I beam rods
    - .220 wrist pins
    -ARP L19 head studs
    - ARP main studs
    - Balance shaft eliminated
    -Oil squirters eliminated
    - New oil pump
    -New water pump
    - All new pulleys and tensioner
    - Kevlar timing belt
    - Kelford 272 cams
    - KIggly springs
    -Manley .5mm over valves
    - BR Stage 3 head, ported and oringed
    - 3 poly and one solid engine mount

    FUEL
    -FIC 2150 injectors
    - dual inline walbro 255 hp hotwired
    - 5 gal rci fuel cell
    - fuel lab 8 an filter
    - russel prefilters
    -aeromotive fuel rail 8 an
    - 8 an feed line
    -6 an return line
    - Fuel lab AFPR

    Management
    -ECMlink v3
    - speed density (IAT, 4 bar Map)
    -AEM wideband
    - IR boost solenoid

    Tranny
    - sinisterspeed max stall 10" torque converter (5100rpm stall)
    - Shift box (toggle switch) with full line pressure
    - Tranny Cooler

    Tires/wheels
    -MT 24.5x8x15 et drag slicks
    - Jegs aluminum 5 star wheels

    INTAKE
    -FMIC (Buschur)
    - 2.5in hotside and 3in cold side
    - 3in deep, 10.5 tall, 24 wide
    - Tial BOV
    -IAT
    - NON turbo throttle body
    - Stock intake manifold for now
    - FP 4in intake with kn filter

    2600 lb race weight

    Gauges
    -wideband
    -oil pressure
    -boost
    -tranny temp

There is more I am probably forgetting too.

My only plans left that I cannot afford now are a new intake manifold and throttle body and direct port nitrous for the spool on the line.

I will update with pictures and then track times. I will be delayed a week because I will be as 3sng 2011 but that is a good thing. ANd I will be driving my stock vr4.

Turbo, fuel, tires, and car pics (the fuel, tires and car are the same as it was from the 10.6 and .7 runs but the turbo is "new")

yep, and "the atx sux balls." more bs from the haters.

i do have a question though. has anyone ever tried evo 8 or evo 9 16g's? i know that the "small" 6cm 16g's aren't quite as capable as the "big" 7cm 16g's on the evo3's. i figure that the 10cm housing would improve performance even more--the problem of course, is that they spool the opposite direction, likely requiring custom headers/piping.

(admittedly, this is morbid curiosity on my part. i've been curious about larger-housing 16g's for use in a 3/s. i've also wondered if the larger housing (10cm) paired with billet 14b compressor wheels would offer the best spool-up & considerable high-end capability as well.)

Oh I forgot that I will probably need suspension mods and a cage soon but I ran out of money. Need to save some more soon. Then I will get coilovers and a 10pt cage. Along with a 70mm TB and JMF race intake manifold with nitrous bungs and a nitrous kit.

Its funny, to run 10s I had the car + a little over 3k in mods. Now I just spent like 8k ( a couple thousand was to re-buy parts since I put everything on the blue car like my fmic, dsmlink, ect) in order to run 9s this year by the shootout. 10s are pretty simple but I needed a lot more cash and parts to try 9s. And I plan to do alot more and hopefully get 8s next year. But lets focus on the 9s first, especially since the car is not even assembled yet.

I have always hated atx and I swapped it so fast on my fwd tt but on the dsm they ET like no ones buisness.

About the evo 8/9 16g's I have no clue if anyone has tried them. But many ppl do many crazy things with dsms. I think the turbo would not fit very well if mounted in a dsm, and I dont see a real purpose.

I have had a small 16g. It had a 7cm turbine housing but it has a smaller compressor wheel than the evo3. I then also had a car with a big 16g and an evo 3. Both did better at higher boost levels than the small 16g but only after mid 20 psi, before that there wasnt much difference.
Then I tried the FP68hta billet compressor wheel 16g. It did great and held 33 psi to 7k.

I ran 12.2@107 with the small 16g at 25psi with this maroon car. That was full weight. I then put on the FP68hta and at 28psi and gutted the car and ran 11.07@122. The I added slicks and put it at 33psi and ran 10.61@127.9.

mind if i ask why you went MTX on the 3/s, but kept it in the dsm? is platform weight the deciding factor? the internals are identical between them, so i'm rather curious.

Well for one I always liked mtx and I seen the 5 speed getrag as indestructible in the fwd form because Chris was doing great with it. Alsom for the atx I could never get it to stall high. On my tec 17gs I couldnt make any boost off the line and it was a DOG. It would take off incredibly slow and I ran like crap. It was due to that and my inexperience in general. And I didnt have anything to help with making boost on the launch or to change timing. All I had was a safc and I knew it wasnt building anything.

But with link and the dsm and a 16g I was making 33 psi on the line and leaving like crazy with stock converter and a little tuning. SO I fell in love with it for drag racing. ANd I can set my 2 step, antilag, change timing and afr easily. It makes using the atx great. And the shift box is the best thing you could ever do with an atx. It beats the regular slow shifts by a mile. I cant even explain how shitty the atx feels when the tcu shifts it at stock line pressure vs the shift box and full line pressure.

Then with over 400whp the atx in the 3000gt strated to be terrible in 3rd gear and not hold any power at all. It would slip and ran like crap in 3rd and not to mention the no spooling at launch and I ditched it for the 5 speed getrag.

If I knew what I do now and how to make a shift box and tune and get a high stall converter, It would have been great no doubt.
