    technical question

what is the difference between the md159966 ecu and the md159964? I have a blown 9966 in my stealth and the 9964 seems to be much more plentiful.

159966 is for a TT car manufactured between April 1990 and May of 1992. I can't find a listing for 159964, but 159962 & 159963 are both for NA cars from the same dates. I'd have to guess that 159964 is also for an NA.

    I can't find a listing for 159964
The 159964 doesn't show up on the US list. It appears to be for a TT GTO, which is not a USA model.
Most of the listings I saw with a quick google are from Canada and New Zealand.
Sorry, I have no idea if it will work for you. Try searching for "J-Spec ECU", maybe that'll turn something up. You could also try the GTO forum, those guys might know more about it.

if it does turn out to be a same-year TT-ecu, i'd use it. afaik, the only difference between JDM and USDM spec is the provision for more 02 sensors on the USDM models.

so yes, as cliche as it sounds, JDM > USDM

yeah, emissions controls being what they are a JDM will produce a few more valuable horsepower. I was just wondering compatibility, but if its this confusing I think I will pass on using it...

    ECU Part Numbers...JOHN MONNIN'S PERSONAL 3000GT/STEALTH FAQ

You do not have to install the exact same ECU part number in your car BUT you do have to install a new ECU
    with the same E2T number!
Pull out the ECU and under the part number on the label there will be a number starting with E2T.
Those numbers on your original ECU have to match your new ECU.
    p.s.
notice that 9964 isn't on the list. there's only 2 listings for JDM ecu #'s on that page. i'm fairly certain that i have a JDM spec ECU in my car because of the wiring issues we encountered when switching from the N/A ecu--but i don't have a clue as to which one i actually got. it was sold to me as a rebuilt 9966 by auto zone.
