It's all about spoke design. 1st gen calipers stick out the same amount as 2nd gen but the 1st gen sits closer to the centre which fouls on some wheels. Mine hit on the inside edge. I suspect they will clear 2nd gen calipers as the spokes start to angle outwards giving more space on the outer edges.

this. you can clearly see foxy's wheels have concave spokes. by rights, the further out the caliper sits, the more clearance there should be to the spokes. same problem i have currently on my 2g brakes & volks. as soon as i can get some 355's, i should be able to ditch the spacers. *crosses fingers*

The wheels are Tenzo Tracers, 18x8.5 . They don't clear the 1G calipers so we're having to run a 1/4 in. wheel spacer in the front until we get our 2G brake swap done. The front wheels stick out just a bit in the front, so once we get those spacers off, they should sit pretty flush with the fender.
Tenzo's are nice. I bought mine for like $90 each, and weighing in at 18lbs, I can't complain. I would have liked them to be wider like 18 x 9 to run 265/35/18 instead of stock.

SSR GT2 knock offs, but I got tired of waiting for some for sale - and I won't be able to pry them away from jason's cold dead hands, when that happens, even when the 99 is long gone

says the guy with the show car, fiberglass bumper, and slammed to the ground. let me know how that works out for you if you use it on a daily basis & have to deal with imperfect grading.
