    Don't think I'd chrome a trans - isn't brinelling a possibility?

I'd polish it, if I wanted it shiny.
Ranked No. #1 in initial quality

Idiots, simply by being idiots, seem capable of achieving randomly bad things that are beyond the imaginings of sensible people.

nope I have had polished valve covers - they require polishing all the time- no way you can do that with a transmission

sure that would definitely be a possibility if someone was stupid enough and left bearings etc in the case before getting it chrome.

Well, I've seen it happen on all manner of unstressed steel parts over the years, I figured a highly-stressed aluminum trans-case might find the flaws in a chrome-job.

I could certainly be wrong, but I'm not the type to leave bearings in a piece to be chromed, either.

Actually, the bead blasting process before the copper plating, before the nickel, before the chromium reduces the stresses placed on metals.

I'm aware of that, but how can you guarantee a flawless chrome job on such an irregular shape?

Less-than-perfect chrome can manufacture some ugly surprises, but maybe chrome has come further than I know.
