I have one question about a chromed transmission.

Is heat disbursement vital with the transmission? I know in car audio, chroming the amp's heat sink effected it's ability keep the circuit board cool. If the casing to the transmission was designed to do that in any way also that chrome plating will effect the casings ability to do that.

    Either way looks DAMN sexy!

here are two methods of heat dissipation you need to think about, convection and radiation. As far as convection is concerned it will make little difference, except for issues of corrosion products of the standard cooler providing and insulating layer - but this will be negligible. The effect on radiant loss will be significant. I have checked with manufacturers of radiators used to heat houses and the reductions quoted area around 30% for chrome plating over a white painted finish so will be similar or possibly greater reduction over dull metallic finish.
most of the heat dissipation is convective heat transfer (probably 90% when stationary, nearly 100% when moving) so your reduction will probably be 30% of 10%.

Conclusion : Maybe it would be an issue at 24 hours of Le Mans, but I don't see that as an issue

i would venture a guess that polishing something & chroming it likely reduces the effective surface area; which would explain the drop in efficacy. if chroming your trans worries you about heat dissipation, get a cooler & call it a day.

How exactly would you go about putting an oil cooler on a manual transaxle?

First you would need a pump to circulate it. Then you would need to think about using thinner than gear oil oil in it as it would be tough to pump/circulate thick gear oil as apposed to ATF which is very thin.

talk to the guys a c3; iirc, they've been working on this. the only reason i know is because i bought a trans cooler for my atx from them. i don't have extensive experience with MTX's; but i'm fairly certain that there's at least 1 or 2 guys running trans coolers on them already.

You know the oil doesn't have pressure in a manual right? There is no pump like an ATX has. You could rig something, but you would need a pump and lighter oil. I really don't see the need.

I'd be interested in a trans oil cooler, spesh if it did the TC as well....more lightweight oil is not an option...the O/S leaks with lower weight oil I keep getting told.
