I'd agree with you that on the forum/internet they are extremely over-played.

Interesting but inaccurate comparisons imo. Though the MTX is older than the ATX the functionality between the two is more on par with a pump action shotgun versus a semi-auto shotgun. However the semi-auto shotgun doesn't modulate reload time based on a number of factory programmed parameters that drastically changes the firing rate of the weapon.

Most ATX computers are crap and as a result the performance of the transimissions they control ends up being crap. Obviously there are exceptions but they are still few enough in number that they remain exceptions rather than become the rule.

and in this day and age of flashable ECU's, you really think that TCU's are as you describe them?

Do we really need to go back to C&D from 2004 to see that an slk55amg was a 1/10th faster in the 1/4 than a stock corvette 6-speed...and with less hp?

regardless though, PWR mode on a 3/s shifts VERY quickly, and a TL valve body kit will reduce that even further.

    Haha Touche'

In all honesty, the days of a standard being faster than an auto are long gone. From a pure performance standpoint modern sport autos are better. Heck Ferrari hasn't had a three pedal since the 360.

But, for me, I feel more connected and in control with a standard. It is better because it is more fun for me to drive.

I didn't know that. That is cool that it at least exists.

You mean the Car and Driver review where they put a mark against the car for its inability to smoothly downshift? And are you suggesting all TCU's are now on par with the TCU used on a 70K luxury performance roadster?

When you view the entirety of ATX's on the market, not just the rare performance versions, you are left with the same clunky units you have always had. And an ATX is supposed to not only execute the act of changing the gear for you but also decide when the gear change should occur. Your standard TCU still sucks at making these decisions and as a result the overall package is still flawed.

And the paddle shift trans in the 360 is a perfect example of how most atx's suck. Calling that unit "slow" is being kind.

But still, I was talking about MODERN PERFORMANCE atx's. The paddle shift atx system in the 360 is 9 years and 2 generations old now. It is far from what is now available in the 458.

It does suck that the manual is harder and harder to find. But as long as all the cars I own are manuals I will be happy.

The funny thing is, the lack of a real manual is what will keep me out of ever owning a current GTR or Ferrari. Granted I can't afford a Ferrari but I could a GTR if it was a goal.
