Pittsburgh man, others attacked in traffic after weekend game in Morgantown*- News - Charleston Daily Mail - West Virginia News and Sports -

The LSU fan got a "crushed eye socket" and a fractured bone in his skull. The wife was pregnant and also got knocked around. The car didn't even have LSU stickers on it, the WVU fans attacked without any provocation at all assuming he wasn't one of them. Nobody stopped the beating until the wife screamed that she was pregnant - by that point the husband was unconscious and limp. It all started when WVU fans threw a rock through their window, hitting the wife, while the car was stuck in traffic.

HilbillyHomeboy and Stealthee, I know you guys are cool, and I'm sure a large majority of WVU fans are responsible fans of the game, but I sincerely think the reputation of your small but ever-present faction of hooligan fans is what kept you out of both the ACC and SEC.

In my entire lifetime of football fandom, the only time friends of mine were ever physically assaulted was in Morgantown (99 game, last second VT win). The dude was in his 50s and never said a word or gloated to anyone. A bunch of fans followed him into the parking lot and knocked over the port-o-potty he was using; he needed stitches to his scalp and I assume was covered in nasty. At the 2003 game a friend of a friend literally got sucker punched walking to the concession stand and another guy had a cup of urine thrown on him. I know several people who had their cars vandalized, and some were even WVU fans with VA plates who apparently were mistaken for VT supporters. Sh-t, someone slashed all four tires of our QB's car one year (1993), after a game WVU freaking won. We also can't forget the battery throwing at Bball games, most notably of course the Pitt game last year which was stopped three (?) times due to crap thrown on the court.

Certainly not all your fans are bad, most are cool, but you guys have a violent minority that ruins the atmosphere for everyone. I have honestly never seen its equal at any other venue the Hokies have played, nothing close from Auburn, UGA, Tennessee or Bama fans, nor from Miami, GT, BC or Clemson fans, and certainly not from Virginia fans, despite our mutual disdain for each other. (I have heard tOSU fans are just as bad, but never had any experience with them).

If you guys don't address this problem quick, I think you'll find it hard to schedule any major OOC games. It's a great shame too, because that was one of the most fun and unpredictable series we had.
This investigation is still wide open, and a lot of things that don't add up. Such as who was driving. Hmm, why would there be any question of who was driving? Probably because the guy was drunk, and most likely razzing. I don't buy an unprovoked attack. With that said, it doesn't justify the situation by any means.

There's plenty of this kind of shit that goes on...it just doesn't get the attention that it does if it happens in Morgantown. I remember the opener of Cal State Fresno and UC Berkley just a few weeks ago, a fan was badly beaten. I bet you don't remember, do you? That's my point, and it's valid. Do our fans do dumb shit now and again? Absolutely. Does it happen elsewhere? Absolutely.

It wasn't a battery at the Pitt game last year, it was a coin. Again, not that that justifies the situation at all. Huggy put a stop to that immediately, but he's nothing but a lousy drunk according to many...

Also someone broke into the WV locker room during the game on Saturday, so apparently we have no preference of who we go after, home or visitor.

We didn't apply or get rejected by the ACC or SEC. That's confirmed by both conferences.

Funny, I went to the Orange Bowl this past January. Sat in the VT section, rooting for Stanford, while wearing a WV shirt. I did nothing but normal cheering and VT fans threw shit at me all night, and the man and his son sitting beside me (who were physically crying) made it quite known I wasn't welcome from the time I sat down. Getting up in my face trying to provoke me, saying shit to my wife, and both drunker than hell. Being the typical WV fan...I simply ignored him best I could.

The Marshall game last year, in Huntington, a teenager beside me told his mom he was going to hit me if I didn't settle down. Kid was raging when he said it, I overheard everything. Thankfully, his mother wasn't a mouth breather, and basically told him to stfu. That was on the visitor side, even! I cheer hard, I do not get in peoples faces, taunt, or anything remotely offensive.

I will never concede to the asshattery of a few, as the representatives of WVU.

    Jeremy

Every fan base has bad representatives.

I remember the '06 A&M @ Texas game... Kristy and I were in the student section. There was this guy in front of us and just to the left who kept booing, making ignorant comments, and continuously proving how little he knew about the game. We had a great time making fun of him -- he was either drunk or stupid; in either case he didn't pick up on what we were saying. There was an Aggie fan brave enough to stand in the student section just in front of this asshole. Late in the 3rd, unprovoked, terrible Texas fan kicked the Aggie in the back and knocked him into the people in front of him. We were all angry due to the way Texas was playing, but EVERY person surrounding him (including me) made it clear what would happen if he did anything like that again.

With that said, I'm just gonna leave this here...

There's a lot more than plain wins and losses. For example look at who and where LSU played. no one else in the country even comes close.

True, LSU alone has done more than pretty much any conference, but the B12 has done well so far, taking out: Arizona, UCLA, BYU, TCU, Florida State, Iowa, Miami and UConn ...

Regardless, the B12 is going to benefit from this success and the 10 team conference (1 fewer OOC game per school).

But A&M vs Arkansas is a critical OOC game.

I bet the B12 is suddenly looking more appealing to WVU and Louisville

Wife says football not motive for beating* - WVU Sports - Charleston Daily Mail - West Virginia News and Sports -

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The wife of a Pennsylvania man attacked after Saturday's football game in Morgantown says the assault was random and had nothing to do with a school rivalry.

Police say Marcus Mason, 30, of Canonsburg, Pa., was pulled from his car in bumper-to-bumper traffic and beaten by a group of white males.

Mason's wife Hannah, 32, said neither she nor her husband was wearing anything that would have identified them as Louisiana State University fans. They were in a white car with Pennsylvania plates with no LSU stickers or flags.

"I was wearing a baby blue jacket. The only guy that had on any LSU paraphernalia was sitting in the back seat of my car, which has black tinted windows. And it was night," she said.

She said she's disturbed some are blaming her husband's attack on WVU's rivalry with LSU.

"These guys were looking for a fight. It didn't matter who we were," she said. "I really don't like this craziness. There's a big enough fight between WVU and LSU."
