a pontiac, maybe,maybe not

drove mikes vr4 to a local car show that was listed for 2 seat sport cars. there site listed about every sport car ever but also stealths and 3000gts. i only went to look at the cars as i was not able to spend all day. when i drove in i went down past the area where the cars were lined up for the show and turned around to find a place to park. there was a datsun 240 parked about 100 ft from the show cars so i pulled in besde it and a guy in a golf cart comes out and says you cannot park there its for sports cars only . i found a place about 300 yds away and parked . when i saw him later i told him if i could not park there you should take my car off your list. he says no pontiacs are sports cars and i then told him it was a 3000gt . he saw the gto rear light bar and thougth it is a pontiac. he said he has egg on his face and asked me to stay and enter but i told him i was just there to look. some times when i drive it to cruiseins guys want to know what year pontiac it is, unblievable hu ... just shows how many folks have no idea about these cars. they think every gto is a pontiac..

Given it was never sold in the US as a GTO I'm not sure why this surprises you. IN the US outside the 3S community a GTO is a Pontiac.

and practically everywhere BUT the US, a GTO is a ferrari, a noble, or a mitsubishi. once again, the US seems think it "knows better" than everyone else.

fuck pontiac. i'm glad the brand is dead. sad that we lose the firebird; great that we don't get innundated with "goats" which people mistake as being rightful GTO's (but are, in fact, either souped-up dogshit drag-racing-mobiles [60's-70's version] or rebadged holden's [2000's version]).

show me ONE factory OEM pontiac that has EVER lived up to the spirit of what GTO actually is. one. doesn't even have to be a goddamn goat.

the 3/s has always been and will always be more of a GTO than anything pontiac ever did in the history of the company.

read the whole article. just because someone uses the letters on a car--DOES NOT MEAN that car conforms to the meaning of grand tourer.

Grand tourers differ from standard two-seat sports cars in typically being engineered as larger, and heavier, while emphasizing comfort over straight-out performance or spartan accommodations.

which is the antithesis of the rx-7.

I would argue that there were quite a few popular pontiacs that would fit the argument of being a fast luxury vehicle. See: Catalina tri-power as one example of a big 2 door coupe that could haul ass while being a comfy ride.
