I do waste a lot of time on reddit, but never really had any good discourse with any fellow redditors. If you think car forums are full of know-it-alls, trolls and abusive jerks, try commenting on reddit, it's freaking amazing.

I can't believe so few of you found this sh-t interesting and/or scary - it blew my mind. I knew about TOR, but I never realized that you could host a website that is only accessible via TOR, and certainly didn't expect the most evil f-ckers on Earth to have their own forum like 3Sgto. I wonder if the forum emails people updates to threads to which they've subscribed... Is there protocol for email over TOR, otherwise wouldn't that be a huge vulnerability; one that hopefully the FBI can exploit!?!

I knew about it... but I don't partake. I've already had my credit card info stolen twice, once from a virus on my comp, and another from a vendor getting hacked who had my info. I don't have any need to search for crazy/illegal sex shit, or anything else clandestine. A friend of mine who works for TI is quite the computer guru, he told me about all this years ago. I guess if I had a need for that info hidden out there, it would be more relevant. As it is though, the majority of internet users can find what they are looking for without having to go dark.

i suppose you could argue that tor should be illegal. everyone i know who uses it is breaking some law somewhere. so i guess you just have to arbitrarily draw a line between downloading dvd movies, dvd porn, and games; and sharing pedo stuff. it's all illegal--some just more reprehensible than others--in the public eye.

i originally heard of it about 8-10 years ago--back during the beginning phases of RIAA's witch hunts. possibly even as early as the downfall of napster. it was referred to as a "darkweb". my understanding of it was as a creation designed to allow MASSIVE amounts of illegal file-sharing invisible to the scope of authorities. it was invitation-only, and it was extremely difficult to gain admission.

i used to game with a guy who would regularly procure movies BEFORE their theatrical release. not the dvd release, mind you; THEATRICAL RELEASE. 2-3 months ahead, in some cases. and this was ~2005-2006. you don't find source material like that unless you have people DEEPLY embedded in studios/production companies who are running the show.

i never got into it myself, thought it did peak my curiosity. i'm a geek; but not enough of a hardcore, linux-genius, code-cracking, security-freak to ever touch the stuff. you can direct a LOT of heat in your own direction if you're not careful--and there's a LOT of very, very smart & maniacial/vengeful people out there. besides, there's enough media (movies/games/etc) out there that i'm content with netflix & 1-year old discounted games. i don't have enough time to "catch up" to what's current; let alone go beyond that into pre-release.
