Thread: Quick question about Power Steering and Alternator Drive Belts..

Quick question about Power Steering and Alternator Drive Belts..

Is it best to stay OEM for the power steering and alternator drive belts? Or is there a better brand out there?

One or both of my belts has a TERRIBLE squeal... I can't stand it anymore so I think I'm just going to change both of them.

I looked up the how to on steath316.com and it seems fairly simple. Anyone have any other advice on this topic?

    Thanks, John

Don't buy Dayco belts. They're terrible. They squealed so loudly it was insane. I replaced them on warranty with new Dayco belts and then the fun started. I shredded a belt a week for a month. I got fed up and bought the cheapest Goodyear belt and never had an issue since. Weird, considering I think Dayco belts are made by Goodyear.

    Another vote for Gates belts.

I used to sell them, and I just replaced them doing my 120K.

Gates belts for sure. I may be a little biased cause I work for them, but their belts are second to none. We make A TON of OEM parts, and all of our aftermarket stuff is as good if not better (if its the racing belts) then the OEM stuff. It's all built on the same tooling in the same equipment.

Can I just pick them up at napa? I hear they carry them with just a napa logo on them.

    Thanks, John

All NAPA belts are Gates belts. Also all Carquest belts are Gates belts as well.
