it's the final drive (aka the differential) that makes the difference. Hence why i can cruise comfortably at 75mph in 4th gear at about 4k rpms or less in my 3000GT( i don't have 5th gear) but in my laser and talon i was at about 4k rpms at the same speed in 5TH GEAR. Both cars have F5m33 Transmissions.

All the F5M33 have the same final drive even. A DSM FWD Turbo trans ie a F5M33 is identical to a 3s FWD non turbo trans down to the final drive. The only difference between the two is the casing.

The W5M33 (AWD) has a similar gearing, but much different final drive.

then what is the massive difference in speed\rpm?

I know the DSM AWD tranny's come with several different differentials, this I have experienced first hand. Between the Galant VR4 trans, DSM trans, and Galant GSX trans. I believe they all are the same trans but some are fitted with different diffs.

Wheel/tire sizes can have an effect on gear ratios. Taller tires (3/s cars) will net you faster speeds at lower rpms.

16" rims with 215\55\16's on the 3000gt. had same size on Laser wheels and tires. Still huge difference. I'd have to have some REALLY SMALL wheels or REALLY BIG wheels. for that huge of a difference. 4th gear in the laser was 117mph.... 4th Gear in the 3000GT is...idk.... i've personally been 125-135 in 4th gear in the 3000gt with room to spare. It's been awhile tho so I don't remember exactly.. I'd like to top 4th gear out sometime.

1st gen speedos read notoriously high. at 135 shown, you were likely only going 120.

Also stock tires on a 3000GT are 225/55. The 215/55 are almost 1/2 shorter than stock and will make the speedo read even HIGHER.

I did the research. 3s FWD trans are the same from gearing to final drive as the DSM FWD transmissions. The AWD transmissions do have the shorter gearing/final drive though.

okay well I'll make sure I compare the 3\s FWD Diff compared to my DSM FWD-Turbo Diffs when I rebuild my trans, and we can settle this debate.
